I don't shoot macro (yet!) so I can't give technical advise...only my impressions. Watch your backgrounds when shooting macros. The background is distracting to the flower center which you are attempting to focus on. Usually in macros there is at least a part of the frame that is in extremely sharp focus, depending on the depth of field. I am not seeing any part of this shot being very sharp, so my eyes keep wandering looking for a focal point. Perhaps your lens is too close for it's range or maybe this was hand-held? Pretty flower, though. I think I would try a more elevated angle to shoot at. That would also possibly help eliminate the background problem. :D (By the way....welcome to Dgrin!!!!)

Exactly what saurora said. Welcome to Dgrin! If Macro is your thing then check out the Other Cool Shots forum. There is a lot of info on Macro there and also the Hall of Wisdom forum contains a couple Macro threads.
