lady said it was their antique shop but just did not have time to deal with it-

I love it! Doesn't it just make you want to go inside and poke around? I can feel tons of photo ops in that one building. I could spend some time in there and probably drop a few bucks on some neat old things. Nice shot.

    Hi George,
Good post. I like pic#1 the best, plenty of character. The store owner should get hooked up with eBay. Those advertisement posters would go like crazy.

    George,

Very nice photos. thumb.gif I especially like the old antique shop.

Take the antique shop owners some prints and maybe they will let you poke around a little more and maybe even open the shop for some indoor work. I once did some shots of a privately owned covered bridge with permission reluctantly given by the owners. The next time I was through the area I personally delivered an 8x10 print of the bridge to them. Now they let me shoot there anytime I wish.

If you do go back I recommend isolating some of the items either singularly or in some small groupings which look good together. A couple of suggestions are the saw blades, maybe some close-ups on different sections of the old stove (or at least what appears to be an old stove) showing elements of the stove's design, etc.

Whereabouts on RT 27 did you find the antique shop? If it's close enough to the end of 27 that joins I-40, maybe we can get over to it while I'm in Townsend the last weekend in April. My reservation dates have me checking in April 25th and checking out May 2nd.

    Dixie-

great idea re the pic--I do believe I'll give it a go-

it's near the morgan/scott county line, north of wartburg-

pretty far, I believe, from where it hits I40-

    thanks for the comments-

    looking forward to seeing you-

Wartburg is 70 miles from Tremont Campgrounds if one cuts crosscountry through Oak Ridge. I may try it as a day trip earlier in the week before we get together that weekend. I may be able to find some other interesting shots like some old barns, etc. by cutting crosscountry using Hwy 162 and Hwy 62 so it would probably be worth the effort.

How does a town get the name Wartburg? That could be an interesting story in itself.

    re wartburg-
    http://wchs.k12tn.net/community/wartburghistory/wartburghistory.html

several miles north of wartburg is a town called sunbright- my wife's paternal grandparents are from there (neil)- supposed to be some neils in the cemetary there- they used to have a 'hotel' in the late 1800's and early 1900's-we still have one of the registries from back then-

us 27 was a heavily traveled road before the interstate, I believe--mostly those out of michigan-I thought I had read at one time that the area was somewhat of a tourist attraction--been trying to find something on it-

if it would help you have an 'in' with the owner of the antique shop, I'll email you the pic and you can print it off and use it-

at wartburg is frozen head state park-

You found the location so I will let you give the print to him. Maybe I'll do a drive-by to see what can be seen from the road. The links in your other post all look good and give me some really good possibilities for a day trip. Once I've seen some of the locations I may plan a trip just to that area to work it.

I can see what made you stop to take pictures. It's a colorful shop. And indeed, it would be nice to be able to focus in on some details.
enjoy being here while getting there
