Hi Y'all,

The season at St. Augustine is just starting. The great egrets and wood storks have just started their nesting and mating activities. I spent a few hours there on Thursday.

    Very Very nice, Harry
#3 & #5 would have to be my favorites.
Those Wood Storks sure have some uuuuugly heads.

I was wondering what those "things" were...

Hey Harry -- some really nice shots (as usual) those birds pick on big sticks for their nests!

Was worth the trip, I'd say.

Thanks Dana. The wood storks are in a close race with the roseate spoonbill to see who has the ugliest head. :D

That is NO race, The storks have lapped them and are coasting across the line.

Great shots Harry. You honestly should put together a book, or find a ghost writer to write one with your pics.

    They are awesome.

Harry, do you ever have a bad day with the camera??? I can't pick a favorite they are all incredible. Looking at #4 I can now understand why they are called Wood Storks....this is the first real close-up I have seen of their heads!!! Sure is fitting. They are really bizarre looking birds. They remind me of the ugly "skeksis" characters in the Jim Henson fantasy movie "The Dark Crystal". :D

Thanks Dee. I always enjoy going up to the rookery. The nest building is the easy part for the parents. Once the hatchlings arrive the parents really get worked over.

Once again, you are shooting with the 70-200. How lovely to be able to get that close to your subjects.thumb.gif

Looks like everybody agrees about the wood storks winning the ugly contest. :D

Thanks for the kind words Brian. When the summer heat starts and I stay in some more I will be trying to put soemthing together of my best shots and seeing what I can do with them.

You know, Harry, I was just "complaining" in another thread about how my 70-200 VR is an awesome lens, but comes up a tad short for birds. As in, I'm cropping them all and am just lucky that even with only 4mp, the color and sharpness on them is great. Apparently not so much of a problem for you, eh?

You smear fish guts on yourself, don't you?

    Great set thumb.gif

Thanks Saurora and thanks for the "ID". I was thinking of a skeksis but couldn't remember the name or the movie.

Harry, they are all nice as usual! But my ab faves are the first shot of the wood storks! Damn, wish I had taken it! I do love that shot!

ginger (yeah, they are pets down there............we have "wild birds" here.) They don't invite photographers to their party, and right now, or last week, it looked like a real hormone party on drugs!

I am actually lucky, too. It could be worse. Probably would still have birds, but I could be too cold, too something to be out there!

That is a great Wood Stork shot. Put it in your book!
After all is said and done, it is the sweet tea.
