Hi everyone,

It's been a few weeks since I've been able to post regularly. I've been terribly busy finishing a major phase of a project at work and trying to maintain some semblance of family life. Anyway, one of the great events for us recently was my son's First Communion. Here are some portraits from this special day. Comments always welcomed.

Erich

good lookin' kid and nice pics-

I'm guessing this is a huge day for a catholic boy (I'm assuming catholic)-

would this in some sense be equivalent to a bar mitvah?-

    Hi George,

Yes, this is a Catholic Sacrament and it is a pretty huge deal for a boy. I'm really not sure if it has some equivalency to a bar mitvah since I don't know much about this Jewish event. I think the bar mitvah has more to do with a child coming of age which is both religious and cultural whereas communion is very specific about the child's relationship with God.

Thanks for the comments on the pictures!

    Nice shots :)

Wouldn't such nice clothes get ruined from a dunk in the hot tub though? ne_nau.gif

I think you are thinking of the sacrament of baptism. There is no dunking in communion.

Oops, I got so caught up in the thread that I forgot to mention these are great shots! Very nicely done. The exposures look dead-on!

Thanks for the comments everyone! I do like the way the exposures turned out in these shots. I've found that the Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens works really well with my 20D and the 420EX flash. It seems this particular combination provides a very good balance between fill flash and background lighting. I just don't seem to get the same performance with my other lenses.

    Again, I appreciate the comments.
