Last weekend we got a lot of snow in the So. California mountains. Took the chance to do some winter hiking and sledding with my boys. Here are a couple of shots from the trip.

Thanks for the comments. I like the first one the best also. It was hard to find any color to contrast against all the white. As soon as I saw the stream I knew I'd get something decent. It was very pretty up there.

would you mind sharing the exif on the first one. I'm dying to know how you get that affect at the bottom of the falls. I tried to get that effect this weekend on some of my shots, and I failed, thus proving my ignorance.
Please let me know.

I checked out the exif info on the first shot. I'm curious, did you use any ND filter? Or, was that a straight f20 @ 1/8? Nice shots BTW.
regards,
Gary
Thanks again for your positive comments on the shots. You can see the EXIF for the first one here http://hbphoto.smugmug.com/photos/newexif.mg?ImageID=60202567.
As Gary pointed out this was 1/8th sec exposure @ f/20. I didn't use an ND filter which is why I had to use the slowest speed setting I could (ISO 100) and a fairly small aperture to get as slow a speed as I could get. Even so, 1/8th isn't enough by itself.
What I did is take 6 shots in continuous mode with the camera on the tripod using a remote release. I then took these shots and "stacked" them in Photohop. That is, I made each a layer of a composite image. Each layer opacity was adjusted so that the first layer was at 50%, the next at 25%, then 12.5%, and so on. This has the effect of averaging all of the frames such that you get the same effect as an extended exposure.

I'm thinking about taking a backpacking trip to Mt Baldy next weekend and I wanted to talk to someone whose been up in the winter. Where exactly did you hike, just Ice House Canyone trail? How high up? And, what were the trails like, snow packed, worn, visible? Thanks!
I didn't realized there was still so much snow over there...
Very nice images!
peace.

It was fun!
Sorry about your head. We had a couple of sledding accidents but no major injuries!
