Old Salem Jail, Salem, MA

Originally completed in 1813, the Old Salem Jail is scheduled for demolition and/or restoration in the next few years. There are several proposals for its use, most involving condos or townhouses. Today, the jail is abandoned and was last used 1991. Before the lot changes forever I wanted some pics. The lot is surrounded by hurricane fencing and there are holes in the fence but I don't dare go in by myself for two reasons, A) I could get arrested and B) the Jail and the adjacent Howard St. Cemetary are supposedly two of the most-haunted places in Salem. So all of my pics are from the outside (for now).

Good of you to capture the image of the jail before it is changed beyond recognition. Did you mean to say that if you'd go through the fence of this jail, you could end up in jail? mwink.gif
enjoy being here while getting there

hahaha! that's very astute of you. I didn't catch on to that when I was taking pictures but you're right... the Salem police would haul me off to... jail.
