Here are a few shots representing things that no longer exist, places that have been or are being irrevocably changed, or ways of life that are disappearing. Please post some of yours as well.
Jersey City
The Hudson and Manhattan Railroad Powerhouse
Built in 1908, this facility provided power to the "Hudson Tunnels", the first mass transit link between New York and New Jersey (under the Hudson river between Jersey City and Manhattan). Currently being redeveloped as a convention center.
The Powerhouse
The Funeral of Mayor Cunningham
Mayor Glenn Cunningham was the first African-American Mayor of Jersey City, and a man of universally recognized moral character (unusual for a Hudson County politician) He passed away in office from a massive coronary in 2004.
The Mayor's Funeral Procession travels down Montgomery Street
Sacred Heart Cathedral
Established in 1889, this church closed its doors in December of 2005. It contained some of the finest examples of American stained glass, designed by Wright Goodhugh and Heimer and Company of Clifton, NJ

I am interested in the use of Photography as a sort of preservation. Do you have similar photos? I would love to see them. Please post a few of them here.
