First time IR shot

Well, Andy got me hooked on IR and yesterday, my mod'ed Rebel showed
up. A quick charge and here's the first one out of the camera :lust

Really good IR gets done when the sun is really bright. But since I didn't have
that luxury, I settled for late afternoon.

Since this is my first time, I'm interested in your feedback.

Thanks,
Ian

Use the 10-22 for that shot?

Well, first off, congrats on the IR cam. I want one of those like a want a 400, 5.6, but it may not happen this year at all or until after I pay off RRS and Gitzo. :DEEeeeyowww!

IR is best mid morning and mid afternoon, so avoid noontime shoots. When the sun is behind you, and illuminating what's in front of you, then it's IR time. Actually, the sun is almost low enough in the sky right now that if you just shoot something green to the north of you, you should be OK. (nothing here in Chicago is green, unless you count St. Patricks day last week).

You'll now be praying for wide green sunny leaves, curvy water features, and big fun fluffy clouds with blue sky behind. Mix all that with some brightly-lit white building in the shot somewhere, and you'll be in IR heaven.

    IAN, YOU LUCKY DOG!!!

Well, I just popped that bad boy out of the box and should've checked.
Way too high on the ISO--I have a couple of bright green leafy trees and
some lenticular clouds. But the shot looks like poo-poo. Too bad. It was a
    nice opening shot :D

I'm gonna take it to Monterey this weekend. We'll see how it goes.

    BTW, that 10-22 is a great lens. If you're shooting with a 20, 30 or 350d,
    you should get one thumb.gif

I like the shot, but ya gotta have green, green, clouds, green and then maybe some more green-

coming soon at a park near you-

of course, a week ago from the first day of spring it was in the eighties, then the first day of spring it snowed some, now tomorrow it's supposed to snow again--

maybe they say it elsewhere, but here in east tennessee, if you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes--

I like this photo, and the car. I'm hoping my next car is an AUDI A8, haha. Great vehicle and a great photo. thumb.gif

    Thanks Marko! It's only a 4 though :D

And George? Yeah, green trees big clouds is what I was looking for. But I was
just a tad too late today :D

    Thanks for the comments.

Here are a couple more. I tried using a diffuse blur on this one. Makes the
car stand out a bit but I'm not sure I like it.

And a slightly different angle. A little too bullseyed but at least you can
    see the green trees thumb.gif

Hey, Ian. Ummm.... Your trees are glowing white! (Just thought you would want to know).

Related, kinda, is that Outback Photo is featuring a recent competition asking people to send in their interpretation of a dSLR IR shot, and the finished conversions are posted along with the PP workflows. Many methods to get to the same result.

Andy's previously posted workflow is simple, but yields good looking images. How are you doing it?

The first is done using more or less Andy's method. And by far, it's yielded a
nice result. The other two are other work flows I found (the diffuser one is
from something Gus posted). Of the three, I would rate them 1, 3 and 2
    respectively.

One thing Andy said to me was that I would probably need to add some - EV
to the shot and to shoot at ISO 100. I did neither of these things (I wanne
and I wanne NOW sort of thinking).

Supposed to rain tomorrow. Guess I won't get much practice w/IR...
