Powerlifting is an Intense sport.

This is my son Jon, 24 yrs old with Down Syndrome. He is Squatting 320 lbs multiple times. He is getting ready for the Summer Games.

There was not enough room to get directly in front of him, so I used the mirror.

How wonderful! Your link takes you to your site, but I poked around and found the pics of your son lifting. He looks very strong and I'm sure he will do well in the competitions. Good luck.

Wow, he strong like bull! I like this one, it gets in tighter. You have tight shots of his face/head & shoulders during a lift? I bet they'd be dramatic.

    Close-up
The lifters love to see the weights for the lift. so they always like a wider shoot.. The close ups really tell the story of the work/ intensity..

I took this shot from in front, on the side, but it is not a mirror shot.. This another lift, of 305 multiple times.

Sweet lord -- I'm supposed to be strong but your son makes me look like a squirt. GL to him and make sure you get some good shots at the Games!

Nice shot, really captures not only his intensity, but also that of the assistants.

Is the guy behind him helping maintain the correct form?

That is his spotter and trainer. Jon is working in the cage with the safety bars in place. The spotter will help him if necessary. the black bars are in place in case everything else fails, you can dump the weights. It is a very scary site to see.. So we are always working to be Strong and Safe.

Any misstep with that much weight can hurt your spine very quickly. Even during meets there are spotters, behind and on the side. There is no cage.

FYI - none of the links to specific photos are working. headscratch.gif

not even yours, waxy. they all go back to the whole gallery.

I agree with wax on the closeup though. I realize for pure sport photos, you want the width, but I bet a great wall hanger of your boy could be had from a close portrait with his "lifting-face" on.

I don't get it. Right hand box? Are you telling me it's a smugmug style view and I'm not looking right? What I see is the gallery in all thumbs.

Hmmmm. I was browsing my own galleries in another tab in 'all thumbs', so when I clicked your link, I got an 'all thumbs' version of SODE's gallery. Smugmug cookies know what you want your style to be, so unless the gallery style is forced I get "my own" version. I was assuming your link was to a single photo style link. Anyway...

Maybe we learned something here, about smugmug? Never link to galleries even if your referencing the first photo in them!

    maybe not. lol3.gif

sorry for the mini-hijack... back to powerlifting.
