Hi Y'all,

I went back to St. Augustine as I can't think of a better place to be for Egret Fest. I found that theEgret Fest tree had been decorated
62099816-O.jpg

A lot of the same stuff was going on -
nests were being built

62099813-O.jpg

62099815-L.jpg

62099811-L.jpg

There had been some changes too....
The snowy egrets had started theii nest building
62099824-L.jpg

and in some of the nests.....
62099821-L.jpg

62099819-L.jpg

here's a crop of the days old hatchling
62099820-L.jpg

I can't think of a better way to end my Egret Fest posts than with an introduction to some of the potential stars of Egret Fest 2007

I think egret fest shouldn't begin till the end of march and end at the end of april so us northerners can contribute without having to head down south.

Sweet baby lizard??? That last one?? Will it lose its hair and be a Spielberg movie star, smile!

    Cool!

Interesting to me that the Snowy Egret seems to have turned red, his feet, and that strip on his face. I know the Night Heron's fancy turns to blushing feet. It appears that the Snowy does the same thing. I also read that a Great Egret's fancy turns its beak yellow?

Thanks Thusie. The first time I saw that tree it was sensory overload. Too many photo ops in one spot. I was overwhelmed.

Most of the birds take on some color change during mating with the cattle egret's being the most dramatic. the great egret's beak stays yellow but they get the green lore around their face, the tri-colors bill turns light blue and the snowys get the red coloring.

Thanks Mike. I'm so far behind in my post work its not funny. I still have a bunch of shots from the Merritt Island shoot to work up, a couple of hundred eagle shots, and a batch of shots from last November still in the hopper.

I'm limiting myself to shooting once a week until I catch up. Once I catch up on teh post work I then have to do my back-ups. rolleyes1.gif

I hear you Harry. I've still got several hundred shots from MI3 to PP along with several more hundred shots from the local birding places. It's so much more fun and easier to press that shiny silver button. :D It doesn't help with all the company that come down this time of year. I've still got one more load of snow birds coming next week. Then I'm FREEEEEEEEE :uhoh umph.gif

No it wasn't Mike but some other miscreant who got at my avatar. We do have a surplus of egrets in that tree. :D

Thanks Froggy. I just recently saw The March of the Penguins and I am always amazed at what the birds go through to mate and raise their young.
