Ceiling Designs

Here are some of the designs on the ceilings of the palace building I live in. I live on FOB Danger which actually comprises Saddams old palace complex in Tikrit. Some of the buildings are pretty incredible, but as I try to show below everything looks awesome from far, until you get up close and see how it was really made. Still pretty cool to see.

Design work on the ceiling of the 20x20 ft room in the center of the building. This ceiling is about 50 ft high. Pretty stunning from far.

All this design work seems to be made out of a cheap plaster and painted over. Like everything else that I have seen in all the palaces it looks beautiful from afar but once you get up close you see the true quality.

Cool stuff, Mike, thanks for posting that. I bet you could gets tons of interesting shots from inside the palaces. They must have interesting plays of light and shadow and shapes.

Ceilings
I like the general view shot of the ceiling, it does look good from where you took the shot.
But I also believe in detail shots, and as you say, you see how crummy it is made... The designed patterns are nice tho'.
On to more palaces to show us more... interesting subject.

I will try to get some detail shots of the ceiling tonight if you all are interested... Just another chance to break out the 70-200.. cant wait..
