Honkers in Flight...
Sometimes, you gotta shoot what's there. Unlike all those Florida guys, I don't have bushels of egrets and herons willing to stand five feet away and pose. On the other hand, I rarely have to worry about hurricanes. As usual, life is a series of compromises...

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
re your avatar - quick anecdote - my father's name is Richard and most of his friends call him Dick, but when he was a kid, he got called Rich, Richie, Dick, Dixie, Richard, and a few other less flattering names I'm sure. When he had kids, he gave them all names that were tough to make nicknames out of....

Making a Frame for your image (Tutorial)
Excellent pictures. Nice work.
So who does this honker think he is, with his tongue out in all those shots? The Michael Jordan of geese? :lol
I bet he was honkin' up a storm while you shot these.....lol Nice looking birds. But I'm not too crazy about those green tootsie rolls they leave behind
Steve
It was worse than a New York City traffic jam.:D
I tried to cull my shots for *only* the ones where the tongue was evident - figured it was a theme of sorts... Thanks for looking!

No compromises here, Keith. These Canadians are gorgeous!!! When you look at those big bodies it's a wonder they can even lift out of the water! Nice action and the birds are nice and sharp. I'd be happy to get close to some geese as nice as those....need a longer lens first!
all taken with the 400mm f/5.6 - a sharp and lightweight prime that is excellent if there is enough light (no IS and no big aperture). It also takes a TC pretty well, although quick focusing with a rebel requires good light. 20d or 30d might be quicker to focus - i plan to find out soon....

right now, all i do is create 2 signature files at 300 dpi with a transparent background -one black and one white. Then I simply keep that file open when I review shots for posting and copy and paste into a text layer in the new photo and flatten the layer or save as a jpeg to post online. Maybe someone else has an easier way in CS2 with a script, but I'm still using photoshop elements and this seems to be a "not too much work" compromise...
regards & thanks..Keith
