Trip to New York City

Howdy All,
I haven't been around much lately. Been crazy busy at work. Just this past week, my wife and I had a chance to visit New York City for a few days. The weather ended up being beautiful, and I had a chance to get a few good shots. Many of them were inspired by others from this forum (Shay, Andy, etc). I even made a trip down to the fabled B&H, although I didn't have my camera with me (it was pouring rain that day). Tried out a 5D with the 24-70 L while I was there. Both are probably going to added to my bag soon. Shown here are mostly panos. I still have to process the rest of my shots. If anyone is interested, I used Panorama Factory V4 to stitch all of these shots.
We had a nice day for view Lady Liberty. I had to wait quite a bit for the crowds to disperse some.
We also stopped by Ellis Island. What a fascinating place!
We had a great view of the skyline coming back. It sure is empty without the towers there. :cry This was 4 shots handheld.
We spent a few hours in Central Park. I shot this using my R72 and 28-135. Shutter speed was around 6 seconds, I think.
The second night we were there, the friend we were staying with took us out to Pier 17, on the Manhattan side. I couldn't pass up this shot. These are the 3 Brooklyn Bridges. Easy to remember with BMW (Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg). Quite a bit of haze in the air, but it really enhanced the reflection of the lights in the sky.
On our first night, we took a trip up to the Empire State Building. Caught a real nice sunset from up there. I also learned that your not allowed to bring up tripods, so all of the frames for this pano were handheld at ISO 800.
On our second to last night, we had perfect conditions for skyline shots of Manhattan. My wife and I headed down to a little park right on the brooklyn side right on the water. It offered a great view, as it was located between the Brookely and Manhattan bridges. It was a very safe place, as there were tons of people around. Here's a few of the shots from there:
Just after sunset, during the best part of the Blue Hour.
Brookly Bridge and Manhattan.
Manhattan bridge with a Circle Line cruise ship passing by. These people were having a great time partying!
Wide angle shot of the whole area. What a beautiful night!
Well, that's about it. There are slightly larger versions of the images at http://www.langfordphotography.com/gallery/1340791 . I'll be adding in more images as I process them too.

Stunning!
Indeed! That makes me want to start experimenting with stitching shots together into panoramas...

Hi Andy! Yeah, I'm a slacker. I had meant to fire off emails to the New Yorkers I know, but never got around to it. :cry However, I did expect to see you at B&H on Tuesday at the DSLR counter. I thought you lived there or something. Thanks for the comments!

Sweet shot Ryan. Where was that taken? My Dad managed several refineries (in CA, MT, and NM) over the years.
If you are really interested in panos, you should check out Panorama Factory (http://www.panoramafactory.com). They have a free trial for 30 days or something. Very easy to use.
Thanks for the comments!

the refinery is in salt lake city, utah, just off I-15.
they put up a star for x-mas.
my photoshop skills have grown since i last worked on that one...........
The Panaorama from the Empire State is just awesome. The last time I was up there the State building got hit by a major storm so everyone was forced to evac.
Your shot of the NY sky line loosk so differenet without the Twin Towers that I didn't even recognise that it was Manhattan.
Cheers

Thnaks! I really didn't think the empire state building shot would come out. I did it all handheld at ISO800 on my 10D. I was pretty happy overall with it. I agree about the towers not being there. :cry It was eerie walking around ground zero.

Good to see you posting again! Your shots are incredibly beautiful as usual.
How's your little girl doing? Growing like a weed I'll bet!
I had a chance to venture out of Dallas to NYC the first weekend of March and here's what I was able to capture: http://www.pbase.com/nwilkins/new_york_city . What a photo op NYC is. I think my favorite shooting location was Top of the Rock (tallest bldg. in the Rockefeller Ctr. complex). You can take a tripod up there though I didn't. Glad you had some good weather. It was 24 degrees when I was there with a windchill of 9!!!!!!!
You need to meet up with Jerry, Craig, Karen and myself soon for a Texas reunion.

Hi Nancy! Nice to see you around. Looks like we didn't miss each other by too much in NYC. I can't believe the weather changed that much. It was beautiful while we were there. We left at the right time, though, because it snowed the next day. We actually went up to the top of the Roc too. What a view! I liked it much better than the empire state building. Also, there was no line at all.
Your gallery looks great! Looks like we went to just about the same places. :
Ellen is doing wonderful. Getting bigger and bigger every morning. Soon, she'll be asking for the guys too the car. :cry
I'd definately like to have a reunion with you guys. I don't get many chances to shoot Dallas, so I'd love to get out. Just email me.
Take care,
James
