Something not seen every day...

At one of the watering holes that I occasionally visit, there are a couple of very small islands that are apparently being used as nesting grounds for various geese and ducks. I caught this sequence the other day and was amazed to see a great blue heron flee from another bird, especially since they have no problem snapping at smaller herons...

Hope you enjoy...regards...Keith

Mr. GBH decides to land on the little island.....

But Mr. Goose (of the Canadian Gooses) obviously has something to protect and honking furiously speeds closer....

With a rapid right turn, Mr. GBH avoids the Canadian air to air missile, at least for the moment....

With the acrobatics of a stealth fighter, Mr. GBH pulls several g's in continuing his turn...63465188-L.jpg

Mr. Goose has run out of fuel and makes a forced landing. Good thing for Mr. GBH, who was about to get a honking up the tailpipe...

And finally, Mr. GBH slowly flaps away looking for a more hospitable landing strip...

Great series, Keith! Geese are pretty "bossy"....if he had a lady-in-waiting nearby, he might have been over sensitive!!! I use to walk in a public park that had a huge lake where a pair of geese reigned (not Canadians) and the male was so protective. He would spot you coming way down the trail and chase you out of his area! You had to run fast, which was always difficult as we were always laughing so hard at how silly we must look!!!! :D

    Very nice Keith thumb.gifthumb.gif

Da goose was probably protecting it's nesting site. Herons and egrets pick off goslings and duckings this time of year :cry

You did a very nice job of tracking and capturing the "dogfight" clap.gif Both subjects are in really sharp focus too.
