No, it's the Chattahoochee. :lol3

I took the 5D for a walk yesterday. It was a familiarization exercise, and I wanted to play with the 16-35, see how my life had changed. Overall, I'm very pleased. A few niggles: the way you dial-in exposure compensation is odd, and the viewfinder isn't 100%, which annoys me for a camera this pricey. But you gotta love getting the full wide angle benefits.

This is the Chattahochee river that flows through northern Atlanta. Next time I'm taking the tripod, so I can do multiple exposures. I also want to play with the ND filter, see what games I can play with the water.

On this one, the water's pretty smooth already. But I hate the sky. A tripod will fix that.

Nice shot. I really like the wide angle. I'm pretty much set on a 5D in my near future. I played with one at B&H, and I liked it. Of course, the downside of having full frame is that I have to have better lenses. rolleyes1.gif It's an endless cycle.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. Don't forget that the files are much, much larger. Large enough to choke a horse... or an underpowered computer.

I have 1GB and and 1.4ghz processor, and it's not enough. Also, either you upgrade to CS2 or you settle for Adobe's DNG converter. In other words, buying the 5D may force you to spend money in other areas. Something to think about.

On the other hand, full frame is niiice! The viewfinder's nice and meaty, and so's the playback screen.

Thanks for the info. I've got a pretty beefy PC (Athlon 64 running at 2.4 Ghz with 1 Gb RAM). I plan on getting some more CF cards, as my current ones with my 10D aren't very big. rolleyes1.gif Why would I need to get CS2? I use Canon's RAW software with my 10D. I then use PSE to finish things off. Does DPP not work with the 5D?

Again, thanks for all the info! thumb.gif

Yes. But as others have pointed out, the world isn't evenly divided along horizontal lines, making graduated filters challenging. Yup, a tripod's a pain (there's a reason I didn't bring it!) but if you have one, things get really easy. Now that I have an idea of what might work, I plan a return visit.

On this one, funky smooth water might have looked interesting. Wish I'd lightened up the left treeline, too.

Sounds like DPP 2.0.3 works with 5D files (I haven't upgraded in a couple of months or so. Odd, this update came out in October, I must be further behind than I realized.)

I use DPP as a file browser. But I'm not crazy about it for converting files. For some reason, the RAW image always looks a lot warmer in DPP than it does in PS. ne_nau.gif

And as funky as Adobe's DNG converter is (I'm no fan of it) I like the layout (similar to PS.)

Not the 'hooch, just a small stream that empties into it. I'm still playing with the 5D and the 16-35.

    Thanks John.

I'm going to upgrade and see what it feels like. I'm still reluctant to buy CS2, as I know it will bog down my machine.

Still playing, trying to figure out which lenses work best on the full frame. Also playing in PS a little bit.

That last image has a nice feel to it. I like it. Perhaps, tho, there is a teensy teensy bit of oversaturation in the greens...at least on my screen.

Yeah, I was playing with heavily oversaturating parts of the image, trying different things. The water wasn't that colorful, either. lol3.gif The whole thing is over processed, but it was a fun experiment. I'm trying to figure out how to get an extra zing in post, when the basic scene is attractive but not terribly special. I play with a lot of stuff I never upload, 'cause I'm pretty ham-fisted about this sort of thing.
