Rotating Featured Galleries?

This may qualify as a feature request, but I'm betting it could be implemented as a hack of some sort. I use my featured galleries section on the homepage as a place to show my four most recently added galleries. Right now, I have to do this manually - ie shift positions 1-3 to 2-4 when a new gallery is added, then place the new gallery in position 1. This can be a big pain.
What would be great is if I could use the homepage feed (which contains the 10 most recent galleries), grab the top four, and stuff them into the featured section. This might be possible with some JS, right?
Just want to make sure this hadn't already been done before I go off reinventing the wheel. Thanks!
