Hey there,
Had a question on my smugmug site. I have several folders that i have password protected and are also private and nobody has access to these folders.
I was looking at my stats and noticed that one of my private folders had 800+ views as in traffic in April!!!!
How can that be if nobody has access to it and i have not given it too anyone!!!!!
This makes me a little worried as i dont want people getting my private pics!!!
Seems a little weird as my private password protected folders have more traffic then my open ones do!!!
Let me know if anyone has a clue about this.
RM
PS: In the last 8 hours it has gotten from 800 to 2300 hits and most are Original size!!!!!

Does this have anything to do with this thread?

No, i hadnt seen that thread before and i dont know what the google deal is... i dont have it any ways...
THe scary part here is that i looked at my settings and i have it checked off so you CANT view originals but according to the traffic it has been....
The folder that has over 2000 hits in April alone has 2000 small and 600 Original which is aobut how many pics are in there!!! SO did someone hack in there and get them all!!!
Guess i better delete them but it seems some one already may have them!!!
It had 7600 hits, not 2000!!!!!!!!!! and there 600 that were orignal size views and the rest were small.....
I guess that makes this worse... Hope its just a fluke!!!
If someone has the url, could they access your private galleries?
That was my point-- not the google issue. In other words, and this may be a question for Andy/Smugmug, could this be caused by a program simply scrolling through the numerical extentions on a smugmug account? I'm sure Andy is looking into this-- just wanted to clarify.

I have put a lock on your site.
You have numerous galleries that are a clear violation of our policy on nudity and pornographic material.
You must delete them IMMEDIATELY to comply with our terms of service.

PS: As to the linking, have you given passwords, access to others?

No. We take security very seriously around here. Simple URL manipulation will not grant access to passworded galleries.
Appreciate the reply. I guess I was thinking of private galleries rather than password protected. But glad you guys are WAY ahead of me on this-- as usual!

SO i deleted the folders that had offensive materials in them....
A while ago i changed hard drives and uploaded ALL my pics from my hard drive to SM as a back up in case something happened in the transition. THere were some private pics of my wife and in there.
But, someone has still accessed my pictures......
NOBODY has ever gotten a link, password to any of my private or password protected folders...
Seems awfully weird but i am sure someone could figure out a why to snatch pics of the site i guess.
RM
If you look at the photos yourself it registers a hit. I always check my photos after uploading (usually at medium size) and thus get a hit count equal to the number of pictures in the gallery before anyone has visited.
This is kind of an obvious and simple thing... maybe too simple... but I thought of it because you said hits on 'original size' were equivalent to the number of photos in the gallery.
... come along.
Well Andy has the link now!
If the pictures were private and passworded, then the hits were your own and noone saw your private pictures :uhoh...until now!
I'm afraid that all you really accomplished with this thread, was letting Andy see your wife naked...
Actually as i was looking back on the previous months history one of the folders had over 7000 hits and i havent looked at the folder for many months. Every month the last couple months has several 1000 hits and many hits that were original......
So someone did something to see them and there has to be some kind of security problem or an error somewhere.
So your right all i did was let Andy see her naked because it looks like they dont really know whats happening. I know for sure that i havent looked at those pictures 1000's of times and they can look back and see in my account that i probably didnt even sign in the month of March....
Probably wont be long til people are snatching pictures off SM like they are from FLickr....
Is your problem related to this thread?

Password protection will not shield your photos from Google searches if you are using smugmug keywords. Once Google gets a URL for a photo, your account is wide open to back door access via direct URL (even if you have password protection or private galleries). Read that thread to learn more about the security holes associated with using smugmug keywords.
so besides that the fact that i had nudity on my site it was still accessed by someone.
The one has over 6800 views of thumbnails and 700 of ORIGINAL size photos- which was viewed to download them i assume.
All the photos were just the random names given by the camera.. Img34000233 etc---
So nobody could have searched by keywords and found them by typing "naked wife"!
I guess no matter what it was accessed and hopefully for others sake you fix the problem but then again it doesnt seem like anything is safe on the net anymore.
Just hope this doesnt come back to haunt me!!
RM
When the wife finds out my guess is you'll need the "Naked Wife" photos since the real deal will likely be under raps for a while.
Good luck

If Andy saw my wife naked...I'd quit Smugmug
