New bird in the neighborhood

There has been a new neighbor lately at my work. Which is kinda creepy since my work is surrounded on two sides by a cemetary. I noticed two days ago that there was a small raptor flying around by the back parking lot but it would never come close enough that I could get any kind of ID on it. But then today I was sitting outside for lunch because it was a gorgeous day out and my new neighbor decided to eat with me. It perched in a tree about 50 feet from the fence around the parking lot. Luckily I had my camera with me so I put the 400 + 1.4 TC on and ran back to where I saw it. It was still busy eating so it paid me little attention. I got a couple decent shots off since I was handholding and it was a little windy out. First time I put my eye to the camera I knew I had an American Kestral in my sights. I have never seen any in the area before so now I am excited and will have to try to get better shots. Sorry about the long post but this really has me excited. Enjoy!

Neat looking bird, Nick. Aren't you glad you had your camera with you? You never know when you are going to need it!!! Maybe he will become your lunch buddy...must be hunting in the cemetary...(let's not go there!) Good shots! :D

Very good Nick. Kestrels are hard to get close to so you did pretty good. Always a thrill to get a shot of one.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Great to find a Kestrel. Falcons (Kestrels technically are falcons) are fabulous birds, but as you have seen, very hard to photograph because they are the fastest animals on the planet. Keep em comin, and good luck!
