Actually, I'm just the opposite. I think the foreground detracts from the image and if it were "clean" it would be an even better shot. It's a great idea for this challenge. Good eye!

Agree. Cool potential here, can you go back and shoot w/o the foreground or at least put it in focus? Maybe try both?
hmmm.....
i kind of like the out of focus foreground - looks as though you were on the mountain on the other side of the valley and you are looking out through trees .....
Thanks for all the comments, I think I need to have another go with a deeper DOF. The sun was setting behind the trees so there wasn't much light, I took this at ISO 400, f5.6, 1/20, handheld so I was struggling.
I posted it because I thought the out of focus foreground gave it some depth....
I cropped it a little which I think improves things slightly?
Gubbs, this is a lovely shot, the colours are beautiful (soft and delicate) and so is the subject (mushrooms) , however, I do think it would look better though with a crisper foreground! Just my thoughts - and still a great shot...
You've captured the macro landscape.

Gubbsy I love the shot.. I don't know if I think the cropped helped or not.. I like the first one. I think the dof could be a tad crisper tho. Are you going to reshoot?

I 'd have to go with the mini-scape, it holds more interest to me and the detail and color is wonderful, it really looks like it could just as easily be REALLY BIG as it is small.:D

I agree. I think the mini-scape has more original character to it. It catches the eye.
Thanks for all the comments, I'm going to re-shoot the mushrooms on Saturday, assuming they are still there , I can't get there in the week, its too far away for lunchtime and dark by the time I get home.
Went for a walk yesterday lunchtime and took a few of the oaks in Windsor Great Park...
I realy like the colors in this one and reflection in water, the way the blue lights above lead you into the rest of the picture is a nice effect. Still partial to the 'shroms shot for this challange, but this shot is certainly interesting.

I am really curious to see how the first pic would look in B&W. I have to tell you though that I absolutely love the effect you have obtained in the second image. I am very partial to B&W of this type. Reminds me of some Ansel images. Awesome job. You are coming up with some great shots for this challenge. Good thing for us you cant compete . I wish I could get a quarter of the people to make comments on my photos as you have for yours. Keep the great photos coming.
Lots of choices Gubbs! I like your mushrooms cropped. A bit of OOF stuff in the foreground I think is fine. Here's my 2 cents worth on that shot.
If you can't reshoot, I would try to create a bit of transition lighting with PS. My eye imagines the sunlight shining into the darkness of a forest and highlighting the feature mushroom. This wouldn't be too hard to do.
As photos, I like the building photos a lot but think the B/W tree is better for this particular challenge.

Thanks Mike, got round to doing a b&w tonight.....

I'd like to see a deeper DOF- there's a lot going on in the foreground that isn't in focus.
