This is a sorta practice session as a prelude to my wild flowers as they come along.:thumb

Used a Black Back Drop....Used 420EX Flash with Sto-Fen.....over cast bright day(If that makes a diff with flash?)....done with Sigma EX DG 105 Macro.

    Very nice Graphy.
    #3 is my favorite.
The black background really sets them off.
My only comment is that sometimes I like to see flowers with a more natural background. That's just me.

    Happy Easter Graphy.
    #1,4,7 are great(in that order).
#2 it has a strange look, but can't tell why.
About the background, yellow on black is nice.
IMO, if you can shot only the flower itself it would be great (eg.4).

A fabric drape trick I learned back in my 35mm days.....and no the plant wasn't harmed in anyway!!

#2 I wanted the whole thing in focus but didn't work out that way.
Still have a thing or 2 to brush up on but it's coming along nicely.

I waited all winter for this!!!

    graphy-

    nice shots-

I liked 3 the best and did not care for 5 but only because I guess the flower was closed up-

1 and 2 a little soft on the part of the flower that's nearest the camera?-only thing I know to do is change aperture or try that stacking thing for dof (if that's what it's for)-

get your best on the wp and appeal to the macro guys for advice-I think you're doing pretty good but I'm a long ways from knowing what's ok, what's good, and what's great with these kind of shots-

    best

    Thanx for your honesty George!

I tried diff DOF but I didn't want the BG to get in focus so I went as far as I dared. The BG cloth wasn't far from the subject....unavoidable.
All in all I was pretty happy with the results. ne_nau.gif

I was curious and googled focus stacking and the first one I opened was a tutorial by our very own lord v-

    I think I'll give it a try-

I had shot a white daffy yesterday but I thought it was too oof so I'll try again-

    here's the link-

keep at it-as I said and for what it's worth, I thought yours looked good-

Your kind and honest comments are very much appreciated! thumb.gif

I've been waiting all winter for shots like this esp of the Daffy's.
We have some flags too but they don't bloom till late summer.

Huge Rhododendron bush and a nice lil Hibiscus (Rose Of Sharon) all of which I look forward to blooming!
Not to mention all various wild flowers I wanna get!!:D

I like 1, 4, and 7 best of this series. The black background is nice. A friend of mine in Australia does the same type of work, so I always enjoy seeing similar examples. Well done!

I was going to say that #3 and #4 are my favorites, but then I saw your rainshots - I like the first one best. thumb.gif
Back to the black BG shots - in deed it has some kind of professional look - Maybe I'll try this myself sometime.
In #2 I see what you wanted to do, but somehow it looks strange to me with the OOF-flower part that is close to the lens.
