Yes, I'm the same guy from two weeks ago who was looking for LA, CA suggestions. :):

I will be going to Portland, Oregon in 2 weeks for business and will have some down time to go picture hunting. I'm looking for waterfalls, barns, skylines, coastline, and anything else of interest that's within an hour or two of Portland. Any help/examples would be greatly appreciated.

Last time I was there, I remember that the Columbia River Gorge was a pretty close drive. It looks like the kind of thing you'd be into. More photos

New to the group here. I can suggest 2 places.

    1. The Columbia Gorge - Over 10 waterfalls in the old highway.

Just go out 84 east till you see the exit with the Flying J Truckstop. Go through the light to the 2nd light and turn right after the Flying J. Go up to the next light and take a left and this will put you on the historic highway....you will have waterfall stops galore!

    2. Silver Falls State Park - 10 falls in this park as well. If you have a camera backpack...bring it

I 5 south to the Wilsonville Exit (lots of outlet stores on your right just before the exit) At the end of the exit, go left. Down the road a few miles you will see the signs for the silver falls state park senic drive. It is WELL posted, but it does tiwst and turn quite a bit through some small towns....just keep going straight or on the main road your traveling on till you hit the next well labled turn...you will get to it.

I also liked Portland's Japanese garden (not that I took any photos when I was there).

Thank you all for your suggestions!!

It looks like The Columbia Gorge and Silver Falls State Park will give me my fill or waterfalls (20 in all). The Japanese Garden looks like a great place to hit as well. If I come out of there with anything worth posting I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Don't settle for the "tourist" spots... Take the time to hike up the falls... There's more to see... example Punchbowl falls is a 1.8 mile hike one way and there's a parking fee.

The Japanese Gardens are nice, but the falls are a better time and $ investment.

If you have a bit of extra time, take off to the coast. it's only a couple hours away... Canon Beach, Tillamook, Lincoln City, Newport, all of them great.

I will be heading over to Lincoln City and Newport the first week of May.thumb.gif

    Good luck!

Yeah, they are all keepers. I am partial to sunset and really love the Cannon Beach image. Very well done, indeed!thumb.gif
