Nikon "Imported" lenses

Hi, this may be my first post here-I've been lurking and learning for a while. I'm about to order my D50 in the next day or two (ABE's of Maine, body only) and the lens that comes with the D70s ( I gather 18-70 is a much better choice than the 18-55 that comes with the Kit). My question is, B&H has Import lenses that are a little cheaper, is it worth saving the $$ for the potential hassle if there is a problem with the lens? Also- I have a Nikon 80-200 f2.8 for my 6006 film camera. Any feedback about using that lens on the D50?
Thanks

NO... You only get a one year warranty, thru the dealer. And, after the warranty, sometimes Nikon USA will not even touch it. If you buy a USA lens, you'll get a 5 year warranty. IMPO, it's with the few extra $$$ of a US copy.

I'd buy the us. I have, and would again.

Same reasons as Seymore, warrenty. I USE my lenses too much not to have that.

Thanks. My D50 body is on it's way with the 18-70 US lens. I appreciate the input.
