Thanks for the comments on this series of images. That duck landing one really turned out for me. This is one area that is hard for me with the lens that I use which is the Canon 100-400mm L IS. It's hard to track and slow for flight shots and this one turned out very well.

    Thanks again for the comments.

Dennis, very nice series. Your shots are sharp and well exposed. Good looking subjects too. Are you using a tripod in these shots? I'm always trying to extract more from my 100-400, and you seem to really have yours really wired.

Thanks for the comments on this series. Strange about the wood ducks they where 3 pair in the little pond, and that was a good thing for me, as it allowed me to get close to them.

The mallard landing is a cool shot for sure. I just was happy that this one turned out for me.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the comments on this series of images.

These images were are hand held in good lighting, the one big thing that I found with this lens is get the speed up high, and the aperture set for F8 for in close. If the subject is further away then get it all the way up for good DOF. With F8 and in close the DOF is decent enough and you don't need to worry about it.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks Dennis. I have noticed my shots seemed to have been improved since I've been using F8 more. Maybe you could clarify one thing though. When you said this: "If the subject is further away then get it all the way up for good DOF."" Did you mean to say if the subject is further away then use a larger aperature?

    Thanks again,

Yes, otherwise the DOF is less shallow and the results are less pleasing in the over all image. That's what I found with this lens. You need to play around a bit to see what works, but in close F8 does a great job, and subjects further from the lens needs a larger aperture for sure.

Thanks for the info on F/ stops. As I have been viewing your threads, I have been looking at the EXIF info pasted on the side of each shot. It always make interesting reading. What is youe priority? You seem to be able to keep the shutter speed up at 1/1000 sec at F/8. Do you use TV to keep the shutter speed at 1/1000th or AV for F/8?

Is it an automatic action to paste the EXIF . or do you have to type it into each border?

    Great work

    Cheers

Hello Stan, not a problem for the info at all. In fact I was more then happy to share the information. I shoot in AV mode most of the time, and in most cases in bright sun light to get the shutter speed up high. If the sun light is not all the good then I use a tripod to keep the shutter speed up.

With the Canon 30D, the one good thing is that I can bump up the ISO settings now since the jump is in 3rds and this really helps in getting the speed up more so then my Canon 20D. Just tweaks here and there can help you some what.

    I hope this helps.

Stan I forgot to answer this for you, and the EXIF data on the side is a program that I purchased and runs in the Automate and this puts in the data that I have selected for all the images. So each image gets the EXIF data and the border that I have selected.....

I will post a link to the site on my forum this weekend in the LINKS area for you and others to check this ACTION/PLUGIN out.
