Powerpoint Effects

Greetings-
I am trying to get a watercolor effect on some of my images the cheap way. I just import them onto a powerpoint slide and then apply the "watercolor" effect. It looks really spiffy.
Here's the problem. I want to DO things with these watercolor images so I need some decent resolution. At some point in the process, powerpoint is taking the initiative to reduce the resolution to about 600x400. According to the sources I have found, that's not enough to do anything bigger than 4x6 prints.
Any ideas on how I can get powerpoint to give me my effect without reducing my resolution?
Thanks- Sigmax
