I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

Well I suspect you have all seen these but not really noticed them. I only saw them for the first time yesterday and have had the plant for three years
They are the real flowers / seed pods in a Poinsettia plant. The bright coloured things we all see are not the flowers- they are bracts (coloured leaves)- these things are just inside of them but are small. I just couldn't believe my eyes when I saw them and burst out laughing.
