Nice set of shots. The third one is a really neat pose. My nit on these is the....
can you guess .........
yep, you got it....
the lighting.
I think better lighting would improve the photo, especially the first one. The little guy is kinda hunkered down in the shadows.
If you don't mind me being so bold as to offer advice :uhoh. Since you've got some pretty willing subjects, perhaps you could practice perfecting your technique on them. Trying to get them while they are in the AM or PM sun for example. This may be heresy to some but I'd rather see a good photograph of a Squirrel than a bad photograph of most birds.
See what happens when you go away for a few days. :pissed
Not only are they tree rats but there are baby tree rats ensuring that the line will continue. :cry

Hum..what happend to Nits Steve:D Your suggestions are taken to heart and appreciated, I do have a problem with lighting among other things. Gee and I got some pretty fair Mallard shots with good lighting and you missed themrofl
Thusie, anytime you get a Mama, daddy, baby squirrel spread eagled with relaxation like the third shot, TAKE the photo!
The squirrel might be in a tree where the sun don't shine, take the photo!
Call it photo journalism!
That is my take on lighting. It is best when it is great, but when it isn't....don't lose the shot!
Who is who said "Available light is any damn light that is available", or something like that.
Sorry, Steve, you know I love your stuff, but sometimes I think the lighting principal can be over rated, especially when the subject is very good, it is happening NOW................well, what I do is take the photo NOW and hope to take another one in better lighting. No hurt in two photos. Wait too long for everything to be perfect, well, I would definitely have nothing, smile.

I think you may be missing my point.
I'm not saying don't take the photo when you've got the chance, but it's easy to take a photo of a bird etc. when it's there. It's not easy to take the extra time to get a better photo if possible.

Not necessarily, I can't get a photo of those birds you photograph so well, I can't get them in any light!
