AAA Night Baseball
Below are some photos from the Charlotte Knights / Toledo Mud Hens AAA game on Friday night. This was my first attempt shooting baseball.
Shots taken with 20D and 200/2.8L prime (and the 1.4x TC before light ran out). Once the stadium lights came up, I was at f/2.8, ISO 3200 and only eeking out 1/200 sec. All RAW and developed in DPP; high-ISO shots run through free edition of NeatImage.

Comments and critique welcome! I don't know when I'll have another opportunity to shoot night baseball, but it was a fun challenge.

... come along.
Great job Greg. I'll be at the Durham Bulls in late July (I think they're playing the Hens) and plan to see what I can do. Thanks for the lens info - that will help me figure out what settings to try!

Thanks! This was my first serious effort with burst mode and AI Servo. I'd like to get better (luckier?) with the ball position.

If your game will be a night game, you'll be pushing the limits of your gear. Since this was the first time I'd ever shot anything under the lights, I simply didn't have an appreciation for how little light there actually is. I now see why the 300/2.8L and 400/2.8L are pro favorites. Maybe someday I'll get to rent one. Good luck in Durham!
