Hey all! I was cruisin' the gallery the other day and was diggin' some of the photo's of woodpeckers, when like magic, the next day two of them appeared across the street from my front door and started peckin' a hole in the tree. I don't think I've ever seen one here in Utah and infact didn't know we had 'em. I'm not a bird man at all so could someone tell me what kind of woodpecker this is? It sure has some purty markings. Thanks a bunch, and thanks for looking!

    Hi
Nice shots - pretty bird. I love the one of her with her head in the hole in the tree - nest?

    Jim,

The first one looks like a male Northern Flicker to me. Kinda yellowish underneath when they fly. Were the other pix of his mate? (looks like a female from the coloring) Nice captures. Woodpeckers are my favorite birds:): .

Ann, thank you for the comments. I looked at the link and I think they are close, but I think my birds are much bigger. Maybe a distand relative. Thanks again.

Felinger, thanks for putting a name to these guys. I was sure suprised to see them there. I do believe they are mates. And twitterpated none the less. Maybe building a home for the younguns. Thanks again.

D200, thanks for the comment. I find out more and more every day how lucky I am. I know there are some kind of owl in the area, but they are elusive. I'm bound to get one sometime though. Thanks again. thumb.gif
