I got a very nice comment on one of my galleries. :D I was able to make out most of it. It was complimentary, I know. But, I can't make this part out.

"Etant moi-meme photographe (artisane) j'aime beaucoup ce que vous faites."

Can anyone translate for me? I don't speak any French at all.:cry
The person said they are from Quebec, Canada. I'm glad they happened on my site and I appreciate the time they took to comment. I just wish I could read it.

Any input appreciated. Thanks.

They are a photographer, and they like your work (literally, I like what you do).

Literally, "I drive on sidewalks (and stairways) and have a funny mustache."

Richard gets the A+ for his translation with Andy a close second. thumb.gifthumb.gif I understand the use of the paranthetical "artisane" to mean "artistic," as in someone who does art photography.

    Nice compliment for you, Snapapple!!

I rather suspect the word "artisane" is being used to distinguish an amateur hobbyist from a professional.

Back in the day, one of the early attempts at machine translation was tested by translating the phrase "Out of sight, out of mind" into Chinese and the result of that was translated back to English. The result: "Invisible idiot" Sadly, machine translation hasn't lived up to its promise yet.

The real credit goes to William James, who I believe came up with it in the first place. Ivar was right on track, and given his sig I think he might have figured it out.

    Cheers,
