B52 bombers, upclose with the Canon 400 5.6

Carpenter bees, are too frigging cool, 1st time Iv'e ever seen these, the only way I know these are Carpenter bees is I looked them up on the net, I don't get out much.....lol.

These buggers are twice maybe three times larger than a Bumble bee, the males are solid black and are harmless, however from what I have read the females sting, I'm not getting close enough for that, 400mm is close enough for me.

    I was wondering the same thing, I only know him from here and bumping into him at the Basin, I pray he's O.K. maybe russ might know what's going on with him.

    The first and third are sweet. Did you use extension tubes on these? How about focusing? Prefocus or AF? Very cool subject, I love the eyes.

    Thanks Russ, Got 3 out of 20 it's tuff to get these buggers in focus, they don't stay in one place very long, see you at the Basin.
