So I bought a new computer system because my current one was choking on RAW files. Here is what I got:

- Pentium D 630 3ghz 4mb Cache (2mb per core)
- 2gb DDR2 PC667 Memory
- Intel Motherboard Intel 945G MicroATX Motherboard
- 2x 160gb SATA II Drives RAID 1 Storage
- 2x 120gb SATA Drives RAID 1 OS/Games/Photoshop
- Evga 6800XT 256mb Video Card
- Mitsumi Floppy Drive with built in card reader (very cool)

And then I already have a 19" Dell LCD. I know its not a mac but that will be later when I graduate and get a job somewhere.

Does this look like it will do ok in photoshop?
This is what I had:

MSI Delta-L Ultra
Athlon XP Mobile 2800+
Corsair 1gb PC2700
80GB WD Special Ed.
120gb SATA Seagate 8mb
Gainward GFFX 5700 256MB
Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
Memorex DVDRW Dual Layer (My pops gave it to me for free)
52X Lite-on Burnerl
====My Gear=====
Canon 5D Mk.2/Grip || Canon 7D Backup
17-40 f/4L || 70-200 f/2.8L IS || 100mm f/2.8L Macro || 24-70mm f/2.8L

    I'm not sure a 630 is dual core, I think it is only hyperthreading. But it should be fine.

    it should do well. I don't use Raid for my OS / program drive space. It is useful for storage.

    I have the Mitsumi floppy drive with built in card reader. I have used it for a while and it does really well.

    Make sure you buy dual channel ram, its faster than just having matching sticks.

    I may be mistaken on the processor but it is dual core. Its a presler based core. The memory is a dual channel kit so that will be enabled when I boot it up. The RAID 0 is great because it gives some nice read/write performance.

    Im also glad to have made a smart move with the floppy. One less external device for me to have.

    I forgot to ask, do you have the model where its all usb2? Mine is older where you need USB2 and a floppy connection. I think I only paid $20 bux for it a year ago.

    Thats cool. They are pretty sweet. I will never use an external reader again after using the mitsumi's. Congrats on your new PC. Now you just have to speed up the person using the keyboard rolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gif

    Photoshop will be waiting for you instead of you waiting on photoshop. Its the classic Man vs. Machine and the Machines might be winning. Laughing.gif
