I don't know if it's cheating to post zoo pics in the Nature and Wildlife forum, but it seemed the logical place for them.

I have seen so many great bird shots on Dgrin that I really hesitate to post this, but normally I only have a chance to shoot PIFs (pigeons in flight). City life. These are South American macaws. The tops of their wings are blue. They reminded me of the Blue Angels (city guy).

There was also an acquarium.

Hope you enjoyed these. C&C always appreciated.

Zoo shots are fine. Much better when you can't obviosly see that i's a zoo.

Nice set. I really like the flying macaws and the lighting on the giraffe.thumb.gif

I'm with you Richard. I'm not keen on zoo shots, but yours are quite good. I like the composition of the antelope shot. Also, think it was a good call on your part to do the ostrich head in black and white! I'll be posting a few of my own shots I took at an endangered cat breeding facility that I stumbled upon last weekend. I hate seeing caged animals, but at the same time it was awesome to be able to view them. :D

Well...maybe it's not nature in their natural habitat but a good Zoo goes a long way at helping us understand our natural world. These pictures are very nice and put the emphasis on the animals. I like the antelope and the macaws the best as well. clap.gifclap.gif

Which zoo did you go to?

    Nice pictures of animals.
Doesn't matter if they are in the zoo or not.
    Great shots, great sharpness.

All of them are NICE !!! Heck - they're GREAT!
and zoo pics, IMHO are just as credible as shooting in the wild!
i rather shoot in the dark jungles of Africa than with 50,000 screaming kids clawing around my monopod.....
and BTW - starting next week im going to the ZOO 5 times a week for two months - so if this isnt the place for zoo pics...
    it will soon be!

Excellent set. If you hadn't told us I wouldn't have known they were taken at a zoo.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Thanks so much everyone. thumb.gif

They were taken in the Madrid zoo, Erich. I did make an effort to frame the animals without it being clearly in a zoo. It turned out to be harder than I expected. I had mostly avoided zoos--for all the obvious reasons--until I took up photography. I still find it uncomfortable, especially looking at birds and the great apes. Think I'll stick to the street for a while.

Right. The concrete wall was unfortunate and it's a tad overexposed. I just couldn't resist the pose. :D
