Not much places to go on this small Island so...the first 6 pics came out of my backyard.

I hope you enjoy them.

With the first two pics I used the SB600 fill-flash...

    Hey Dick,

I like the first one and the last two. Unusual (to me) creatures here.:D

The other shots look way too saturated, and, it looks like you were dealing with a very bright sun, making proper exposure difficult. Am I right? I don't know what your experience level is, and I certainly have no desire to insult you, but I was wondering if maybe you were a little heavy handed in post processing? ne_nau.gif

I know that I used to carry things too far myself until I realized that more isn't necessarily better.

I see you have some really good gear there. mwink.gif

Oh...I was wondering how you do that "click on pic to enlarge" thing?

Very nice Dick.....and they are very sharp. I like the flash fill also, but I don't always use it effectively. And, those are interesting looking birds you have down there, keep posting the ones we don't get here in California. I'd love to see more.

Thanks for looking and CC my pics Ric, I really appriciate it.

You're right about dealing with a very bright sun. Do you really think I went to far with PP? I like a kind of "bold" picture but I can go too far and...maybe I did. I appriciaty to hear what the other members think about it.

The "Click to enlarge" thing is actually very simple:
When you're done with embedding your picture in your message (yellow mountains and sun icon), you click your picture ones so it's selected.
Now you select the hyperlink button (globe with chain icon) and embed the link to the larger picture in your picture.

    Thanks again,

    Dick.

That's a very interesting Dove you've posted, can't say that I've ever seen one before. But then again, I've only started photographing and enjoying nature after I left Curacao. Next time I go back to visit I'll be keeping both eyes open for this one. And like Dallas mentioned, keep posting more of your local fauna (and flora). Pabien thumb.gif

There is a small bird, highly saturated, and I like that better than the pigeon shots.

I am not crazy about the fill. But that is just me in this instance and could be post, or something.

There are a few shots where I think the white may be past the blown category. If I do that I get yelled at extensively!

But I really like that small bird series.

When my saturated photos were criticized last summer it turned out that it was the white balance a bit, plus I needed to steepen the black curve a bit in CMYK because of our high humidity. Those were my bird shots when the vegetation became lush, especially those, I do remember that.

Good set Dick. The flash worked on the firts shot but sirt of washe dout the second. I like the stilt shot but would knock the saturation down just a tad.

    Dick,*

I am a big advocate of fill flash, particularly when shooting in contrasty sunlight. More folks should use it:):

I have not seen that species of dove before, very colorful.

But, well done fill flash, should be undetectable. The first two shots look like on camera flash shots, complete with a flash shadow in the first shot.

Try dialing your fill flash back about -2/3 stops with Flash Exposure Compensation and I think your image will improve significantly. I can't tell you how to do this with a Nikon flash, but I know it can be done.:):

Thanks for looking and your CC. The first two pics do have a bit too much fill-flash. I learned my lesson for the next time.
