The subject says it... how would you crop this?

This isn't the greatest photo in the world, but I'm more interested in people's opinion on framing/cropping here.

The target audience is the baserunner, his team and his familiy. Would you keep the 1st baseman at all? the partial 1st base coach?

The coach is distracting, so he has to go. You want empty room to the left, because that is where the runner is trying to go. I would probably crop off the right and some of the bottom. The goal would be to have the first baseman's glove (but not his body, foot, etc.). I'm afraid if you crop just to remove the coach that having half a first baseman would look a bit odd.

personally, I would do what Kent did, but leave more space on the left for the runner to move into. I think having the baseman's glove just hangin' out there would be weird, and you want to have some part of him there b/c it gives perspective on where the runner is coming from.

Yes. Having half the first baseman looked better than I thought it would. However, you absolutely must have empty space on the left for the runner to move into.

I couldn't agree more. I was too hasty in my first effort and forgot to leave a space for the action to move in to.

Steve, I hope you don't mind my playing around with your photograph.

I like the context of the first baseman in the shot. Might help with a shallower DOF as well.
