The Money Shot

I totally dig this kid's expression :lol3

Canon 5D, 24-105L on board. 580EX, bounced. Manual mode, 1/200th sec, f/4. Very tight quarters in a pre-school basement. I was about four feet away :uhoh and so was very thankful for the wide-angle performance of this lens.

If you are intersted, there are a go-jillion more in this gallery.

I hear tell of pros who say you need a 1DII N or Nikon D2X to get the money shots. Is it easier? Probably - but if you know your gear, and are good at anticipating the action, you can get the money shot with any camera.

Enjoy (Tae Kwon Do) photography,

Good shot. Doen't even look like flash was used.

Here is a semi-money shot :): I was able to use a much faster shutter speed since it was outside.

So how many of the volunteers got stepped on in the jump over kicks? That looks like it was a very entertaining night.

Great shot. My biggest problem with anticipating the action is I get to involved in the action and forget to push the button. umph.gif

Best Place for Money Shot Expressions
I take alot of pictures of the different squads at the cheer gym my three daughters attend. Most of the time the light is poor at best, but sometimes, at the national competitions, they have rock-concert-like light rigs which really make a difference.

It is rare that I don't get a shot with a big "facial" on someone...that's part of what they are judged on. Most times I use my little Panasonic FZ20 for my pictures. However, sometimes I get a chance to borrow a Canon 20D with a nice, bright f/2.8 lens all the way out to 200mm! Well, you can tell the difference when you look at the images.

I think I have the technique and timing, now I just need better equipment.

Here are a few of my money shots:
