I haven't had nearly enough time for picture-taking but managed to sneak out for this one last week...taken from the shoulder of the Glenn Highway, near Eklutna, Alaska...
Great colors, loving the reflection of the sky and the mood but it gives me the sensation that is right tilted a bit.
Thanks for the feedback! (This goes for everyone else, too!)
I was wondering if I'd hear an unsolicited/unsuggested comment about tilt. I bubble-leveled the tripod head at the time of exposure but after post processing, I too had a feeling of a slight CW tilt myself. I just haven't made the time to actually check/correct it in PS.
Saurora...I'm with you on the 10-22, if only I had one. It'll have to wait, though. I need/want/desire/crave the 70-200 f/2.8L first and foremost.

Nah. This shot was taken at the end of the Knik Arm of Cook Inlet...much too far inland for halibut. I don't fish for halibut often but when I do, it's usually out of Deep Creek, down on the Kenai Peninsula, about 3½ hours from here.

This is a wonderful image. Tilt? It can't be more than a fraction of a degree. It's very hard to determine due to the characteristics of the lens - a little barrel distortion there.
You're an Alaskan by choice. I'm an Alaskan by desire. When I finally find employement in the Anchorage area that will support me and my wife, we are there. When my father was in the military, we lived on Elmendorf for about 6 years. My brother lives in Eagle River. I want to live there. Took my wife there for a couple weeks in the summer of 2003 and another couple of weeks last December. She loved it, so it's just the job thing holding us back (I won't make the mistake of moving, finding no employment, then having to move back state-side for lack of funds - but it's taking time).
Gorgeous!! What a sunset! Beautiful reflection! Beautiful colors!
I looked for a long time for tilt. Don't see tilt. Looks like the row of trees dips down in the right corner. Just a bit of barrel distortion, I think. Easily fixed with the "distort" feature and won't have to crop off anything.

...how were the MOSQUITOS that summer visit of yours?:wow
Mosquitos are a fact of life - you learn to deal with them or you just don't do any of the things that make living there worth the cold and expense. That particular summer, we got chased indoors only once and that was from the deck in my brother's back yard. When we did the camping/fishing thing, the bugs pretty much behaved themselves - it was a glorious time/relief.
Here's to wishin' you a speedy move to Alaska. I can sure understand the need for job prospects prior to a move. I came here just to retire from the USAF. They never would station me here, so I elected to come here for my outprocessing. I didn't have a job all lined up, though. Fortunately, I had the wherewithal to take a "fun" job until the right opportunity came along.
When you do make it up here again...whether permanently or for a visit...be sure to give me a holler.

I love the progression of textures and colors you've captured.

Enough rant - very, very nice photo.
