:clap The new 2006 Wood Stork model :lynnma
I first saw the hatchling a couple of weeks ago

Its not easy getting good shots of the wood stork nests because in the pecking order at the rookery they are at the top meaning they roost in the tops of the tree. The great egrets come next and the tri-color herons and snowy and cattle egrets get the lower branches.

Well done Harry. I've not seen the wood stork juvies before. Interesting looking chicks. Not "hot" like the osprey...but interesting. :D

Awsome, Fantastic shots Harry! The babies are ugly, but look what they become! As you know I was there about 10 days ago - so I am wondering did you use a boom truck to get these shots?!?!

Thanks Laurie. If you want prehistoric you have to look at the great egret chicks. They could have played roles in Jurrasic park. :D

Harry, how could you have guessed that I would see this post?

    Cool babies.

I wonder when they will arrive here.........

Snowys? Funny our snowys' nests are behind other trees. I don't think I have ever seen a snowy chick, and I know I haven't seen a Wood Stork chick. I haven't seen a Wood Stork lately! They are nesting somewhere here. I do see the Snowy's. I can photograph them, just not their nests.

So Harry, if the wood stork nests on the top branches of tree (and apparently these trees are not a meter or two in hight) how did you make up there? Did you rent a "cherry picker" for the day? rolleyes1.gif
BTW, great series as asual clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif

Thanks Mike. I like going for the rarer find as opposed to something common like an osprey. :D :smack

    Great Stuff Harry.

What a unique bird. It is the only one that I can think of that is better looking as a chick than it is as an adult.

Thanks Ginger. We will send some wood storks your way soon. Of course, there will be the standard fee. rolleyes1.gif

The snowy eggs have started to hatch here. Right now they are too far back and tehya re too small to get a decent shot but I'm hoping to catch some decent shots next week.
