Streets of New Orleans -- not pretty

I went to New Orleans last weekend to attend the New Orleans Jazz Festival. I spent one afternoon driving around neighorhoods damaged by Katrina. Here are some shots. You can see the whole gallery here. I haven't spent any time post processing, I just jammed them all up into smugmug. Some of them were shot out of the moving car.

I was also in NOLA in January. Significant improvements have been made since then, like working traffic lights, but in many areas, it's like the hurricane hit yesterday. The photos don't come close to expressing the magnitude of the problem. Mile after mile of ruined homes and businesses. Some folks have a FEMA trailer installed in their yard so they can demolish and rebuild their houses.

But New Orleans is making a comeback. The Jazz Festival was a huge success. The French Quarter is up and running. More gas stations and restaurants are open. You can sense the hope.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for posting these. It sucks to see it that way but I'm glad people have gone down to document it.

Thanks. I hate to be a downer, but this is real life. Tragedy and hope.

Sadly, they say Louisiana is losing a football field size of land per hour, (or per day. I forget which). At this rate, half to 2/3s of the state will be under water within 15 years.:cry
