Convert 20D to IR
Need some of your thoughts and ideas on this.
Thinking of upgrading to the 5D and using Max Max for IR conversion for the 20D.
$450 for full conversion is what I am looking at.
The reason for the upgrade is I need bigger file sizes for some clients.
Reason for IR conversion I have the 717 for IR and it's just not doing it for me...
I haven't really done any research on any of this just figured I would see what everyones thoughts are on this.
Any examples of 20D and IR would be great too :thumb
Thanks
Fred

20D will be identical really, to my 300 and 350D conversions. I'm now shooting with a 5D IR Mod from Maxmax, and love it

Is this not a good camera choice for IR work.
Is there something I am missing.
Like sell the 20D and get a 300 or 350D
Thanks

i think its because unless you do alot of fulltime IR photography you don't really need a magnesium body for your IR converted and the plastic bodies like the XT and Rebel are alot lighter and such.

But I think the 20D would be awesome IR camera.
I have only found one guy in some fourm saying the 20D was a bad choice for IR but he didn't really go into detail.
We will soon see...and to push things alonge Canon has a $300 rebate on the 5D.(I'm gonna miss the 10-22 :cry)
I really wasn't ready but might be sooner then later
Thanks Daniel

Either way, I think you're fine (my xt is maxmax modified). I don't know
I'd modifiy a 5d just for IR :uhoh Maybe keep the 20d, modify it and pick
up the 5d for other stuff (just thinking outloud).

I know I'm gonna sound like a person offering to sign a prenup to a couple of ears-deep-in-love teens, but please do think of the following aspect: once you get tired of that IR-ed body and decide to get rid of it - how easy would it be to sell it?
I'm only talking from my personal experience. I had an IR-modified 828 and I basically lost hundreds of dollars when selling :cry . Reasoning is simple - there will be a lot of people selling non-modified versions, and when potential buyers will be looking at your listing, they will first notice your much higher price - and that immediately eliminate it form being a contender. So, when selling, not only you'll lose on depreciation of the camera body, you will also lose an unfairly large part of what you paid for the mod..
Just my 0.0000002 grains of salt...
Good luck with whatever decision you make!
Ian that is exactly what I am think of doing 5D for everyday shooting 20D for IR.
Nik you bring up a very good point and I will keep that in mind in making my decsion.
In my case I tend to hold onto my stuff (cameras) until there is no life left in them
so by the time I ready to sell there not really worth anything anyway
But we will see
Thanks
