Great shots Thomas- wonderful colour and clarity. #2 &4 look like Dolichops sp which have interference colouring.
BTW flies must find you attractive, these are all females
You can tell by the largish gap between their eyes at the top of the head.

Lovely
Wow.. nice work.. i like the first and third.. really make me feel like going out for some macro.. it has been more than a month since i last posted anything on this forum...
Thank you for the positive comments everyone. The first one was taken of the fly on a McDonalds paper bag : . My neighbors were eating out on their deck. It turned out to make a nice background. No filters, just my usual ACR/PS processing. I do up the contrast/saturation more than on my other types of shots. The 3rd one was on a plastic bag, makes a nice high key background. Thanks again for looking.

Thanks LV. My Audubon bug book has a pic of a Condylostylid Long-legged fly that looks pretty close. It says there are over 40 species, which only a specialist can identify. Dunno. Their colors are pretty cool. I have the hardest time with these smaller flies because most of my pics are missing the fly because they fly off as the camera fires. I think the mirror is scaring them off. I don't think it is the preflash because I tried a manual flash setting and they were still flying off. Any tips?
