I'm shooting a wedding in a few weeks. I have a new Canon 20D that I'm using. What do you recommend for flash to get the best lighting camera possible (I'm looking for portable flash).

thanks!

Canon 580EX or Sigma 500DG. Buy some kind of light diffusser (sto-fen omnibounce or the gary fong lightsphere.)

If you look at the Sigma, please know that there are two 500 DG flashes. The 500 DG ST and it's big brother, the 500 DG Super. The differnce between them is features. I mention this because it took me some time to figure out that there were two 500 DG flashes and then to uncover the differences between them.

I have the 500 DG Super and, while I am still in the process of trying to figure it all out, I think I'm going to like the flash very much. Just my $.02 worth.

You can use the ETTL function of the 20D with the 580ex and if you get a pair you can use the wireless setup.

    Whats your location?

One still has to be on-body.

You can do the same with two Sigma 500DG Super's. (and for the price of only one Canon 580EX)

I have a 580ex which I used as the master and hired 2 more as slaves (UK price was £11/day each) for a wedding last week. I didn't end up using them too much but they were useful for the speeches and 1st dance. Made me feel more comfotable having them in my bag incase of rain!

Hopefully Shay will chip in too....ear.gif

Is the operation the same? infrared? Communicate with camera? Ratios?

Can you mix Sigma's and Canon flashes? I use 2-580's and 1-550 now but could use a few more.

Sigma could not give a definative answer to this question, when I emailed them about my KM 5600 HS talking to their 500 DG Super......they said that some info might not get recorded and of course recommended I purchase only sigma flahes to keep communication lines pure and simple.......:D ....of course that did not come as a surprise...especially since the KM 5600 has nearly doubled in price since the sell out. :D

    Yes and Yes.

    I've used 2x 500's with a 580 and a 420.
