I got this one Thursday night at the dress rehearsal for Balanchine's Serenade:

Tai Jimenez / Boston Ballet / Balanchine's Serenade
Canon 5D / 135mm f2.0
1/800th @ f/2.0
ISO 1600

Here is my current entry:

It's sort of an embarrassment or riches. Both shots were culled from wonderful shooting opportunities and there are lots more I could have chosen.

Thank you for opinions and critique.
If not now, when?

    Hi Rutt

I like both shots a lot - pretty tough decision to choose between the two but I still really like your current entry - in my opinion it just has everything.

    Cheers

Embarrassement of riches indeed. I love the arc of the tulle and the sense of motion in the second one. And, of course, the smile is absolutely contagious. It is a wonderful portrait. My only suggestion would be to fix (blur?) the floor so that the nicks and irregularities don't draw the eye away from Ms Jimenez even for one second.

So, I asked myself: Which one would I choose if they were both in the finals and I could only pick one. Hard, hard, hard. Lighthearted and dynamic versus serious and elegant. Bottom line is that I would (probably) vote for your current entry.

    Best of luck to you.

Have to agree with LeDude - its a more powerful shot, the position of her hands, the concentration on her face and i could go on and on.

Oh to have your problem Rutt.:):

Both are wonderful, really couldn't go wrong either way, but your current entry is a bit more stunning. IF such a thing is possible.

I like your latest beter for "portrait", contextual or not!

However, what about the "bar" that Andy mentioned, I am still worried on that score, so to speak. (The contextual score and the portrait score)

Great shots, though, all of them!
