First, let me state in unambigious terms: I'm not a war protester - I firmly believe that all have a duty to answer the call. Still, one has to wonder sometimes.

I didn't know if this qualified as a landscape, a people shot, or "other". I put it here. If I goofed, sorry. Please move it.

We have a small National Cemetary in Hampton, VA (it's about 15 miles from my home). On my way to another destination, I stopped there to determine suitability as a photo op when the light was a little kinder (the following was taken at 3:30PM so it was just starting to be nice).

There was no saving the color version of this image, but I figured I might have some fun/luck with a B&W conversion (this is my first real attempt at one, so I pretty happy with it and looking for comments).

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look.

Hi Scott. Nice shot tho' just a tad too much contrast for my taste. I can understand the colour file being difficult in such contrasty conditions but the same goes for mono usually. I also find the open space front left a bit intrusive. It might be nice to isolate the headstones from the buildings in the background too.
We have a huge US WWII memorial cemetery - Madingly, near where I live in East Anglia, UK and they make great locations.

    Mark,

Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate the honest attempt to proivde USEFUL feedback (especially since I asked for it).

Since this was just a trial run, the comment about composition is something I can easily take care of in the re-shoot and, now that you mention it, I can see it as well.

These buildings are unavoidable when looking eastward. Since the place is only accessable from 0800 to 1700, I wont be using that perspective on the re-shoot (1700 is not late enough for good light, so I'll need to be there in the morning). Morning light will force me to be looking westward and the west side is bordered by a section of old-growth trees. Could work nicely.

You've given me some things to think about while I'm re-shooting and I really appreciate it.clap.gif
