Hello,
I don't know if everyone travels with gear a lot so here are a few things I do before each trip.
I have a gear folder on my website. I copy the email folder that has confirmations of the purchases, a text file with a list of gear, serial numbers, purchase price, retail price, an image of the gear im bringing on the trip. This way if there are anything you need to claim when you come back you have basic details.
I keep a list of everything camera related anyways with all gear including lenses, lighting, supports, computers, etc.... so I just copy that.
I fill up a baggie with bandages of different sizes and misc stuff like that, that goes in the camera bag. I have small plastic box that holds neosporing, clear eyes, and dental floss. I have a tube of cortozone 10 for bug bites, etc....
On the D rings on my backpack I have a tube of sunblock SPF 30. Coppertone has them with carbiner that snaps on. And a compass. I broke mine so I need a new one that I will grab today. I carry a map of the parks in the bag so I can get out if I need to.
On the outside of the bag I have 2 of these to hold gatorade or water http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=198713&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation
and one of these for cliff bars, gel packs, etc...

I am leaving the bulk of the rain gear home this year. I just have 1 storm jacket that will cover up to a 400/5.6+1/4x tamron+20D if i need it.
my prep might seem over the top but you never know if someone will get cut or what,

And water all day. Everyone should have at least a medium size bottle of water with them.
