Mother's Day Picture

Here's a picture I took during mother's day at the restaurant. It's of my niece and her grandpa (my High School counselor - we're a weird family ) I like the B&W version better.

Anyone using Aperture know why it sharpens the image when it resizes smaller? It seems to be giving me the "bi-cubic sharper" option that's in Photoshop.
