This must have been asked a thousand times in here, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, so here goes :wink

My current address is http://momentful.smugmug.com and my smumug title is "Momentful"
But I have a GoDaddy account, and am going to change my address to www.markissaearle.com and don't want anything to do with "Momentful" any more.

So, my question is, if people, who don't know that I have changed my address, go to http:// instead of my new www. address, will they be fowarded over, can I help this in any way?
What is the best way to handle such changes?
Thanks
Cheerio

Handle it anyway you like - both addresses will be active.

    http://www.customdomainname.com and
    http://nickname.smugmug.com

you can also change your SmugMug nickname to markissaearle in your control panel. At that point, momentful ceases to exist.

Just to clarify, the "http://" part isn't technically part of your web address. It's to tell the browser what type of internet resource you are attempting to retrieve. It stands for hyper-text transfer (or transport?) protocol.

    Just to clearly understand
Ok, So just to make sure I clearly understand...
As long as I don't change my nickname, people will still get to my web site either way? Ok, Awesome.
I did know that http stood for that, I was just using it as a term to represent my current address vrs my new one.
Thanks very much!!!! clap.gif Now I can have peace of mind and change it! Yeah!

That hostname doesn't appear to be valid.

Ok, I followed the directions to change my host name, for GoDaddy. I followed all the steps, and had someone call me and walk me through what I wanted. But about a month later, I still can't seem to make www.markissaearle.com work. When I type that in, this is what comes up:
That hostname doesn't appear to be valid. It doesn't resolve to a hostname. See our help section on custom hostnames.

So, is there anything else that I can do?

Well I added www.markissaearle.com in the Custom Hostname Box. If that is where you are suppost to put it, and I am assuming you are, then that is were I put it. It must be something I didn't do on GoDaddy's end and not through smugmug.
But everything looks right to me? lol
    thanks for the help guys

It's currently not in there and can't be added since the URL is not set up properly yet.

Have you gone through these steps: https://www.smugmug.com/help/godaddy.mg ?

Ok, I have followed the steps, and in fact I went back and tried them again. And this time it worked. So I must have missed something. But I honestly can tell you that I followed those steps quite a few times and this time it worked...try try again?
This is the glorious thing I read on my smugmug page this morning:
    Pro features updated!

NOTE: Changes made to your domain name at your Registrar take 24 to 48 hours to complete. This includes new domain registrations.

Glad it worked for you Earle. I need to get mine set mine up to and have a question.

So at Go Daddy... under Alias -> points to -> did you only type in www.smugmug.com just like it says OR do you add to that your specific smugmug address??? How does it find you if you don't add your part of smugmugs address?

I purchased my domain via go daddy long ago but havn't set it up yet. Thanks so much.

ain't it great when things work...
domain name changes take time to propogate through the net; here in Atlanta via Earthlink I see your SM site via both URIs already, http://momentful.smugmug.com/ and http://www.markissaearle.com/

    Hi Markissa!

I was just about to post the exact same question until I did a search and found your post. Thanks. I looked at your site again and it is fantastic! I LOVE that wedding calculator...I was considering such a thing and didn't know how to implement it. Do you mind sharing how that was done?

Off to fix up my godaddy domain!

My domain keeps getting better and better. I Love smugmug!
The calculator was actually very difficult. It used html code, css code and java script and alot of editing. Alot. And I wasn't the one who designed it. In fact it was another amazing smugmuger named "Tony Schreiber" and you can go check out his web site at: www.tonyschreiber.com
But he didn't help me out at all because he is a busy web site designer, so you would have to find the code for yourself and edit edit edit! Hope you can figure it out!

Thanks! I actually found his post about his new invention. I wasn't sure if it was legal to use the FF CSS tool to borrow/edit/use someone's code. Did you just ask him?
