Hi, I am trying out this new google map thing. The map on my home page shows the map then it dissapears to the white background that says no imagry at this level. Is this a bug. Also is there a way to update the geography on a large number of pictures or even the whole gallery at once? It would be quite a pain to edit every single picture and update the geography.

thanks

    This is a tough issue for us to tackle. You only have two images with geographical information and they are right on top of each other. We recently made a change so that the homepage maps zoom in automatically to an appropriate level. For example, if you only had photos in California, it would zoom in to California so that it doesn't show the entire globe with a bunch of photos only in California.

    Unfortunately, Google doesn't have good data for a large portion of the world, including the area your two tagged photos are in. We would like to somehow determine if it's zoomed in too far or not and adjust automatically, but it's a difficult task.

    My suggestion would be to tag another photo with geographical information that is a bit farther away.

    I have the same problem. Street maps work fine it is just the satellite imagery that is missing.

    Is it possible to have the map display display the street maps when the satellite imagery is missing?

    Or can the default view be set at a lower zoom factor?

    (for example if I zoom out twice then I have an image)
    Can you put the map/satellite/hybrid buttons on the image so we could at least see the street map?

    google map problem
    I have two web addresses as many people here do. My smugmug address http://smhs-images.smugmug.com and my own domain http://shawnaseto.com.
    When I set up the google maps from my homepage smugmug told me to use the shawanseto.com to register which I did. Only now when I click on the control panel I get an error response "google maps key is resigetered to a different site... you can generate a new key at..." But even though I did do that there is no place for me to change the key. I really just want the annoying pop up to go away, its there every time I open the control panel.

    Thanks!

    Man, your photos are stunning. That was a dirty trick to send me there because I almost never emerged to get back to this thread.

    I can get to the first URL but not to the second. I get a message served by SBC Yahoo that says:

    Why am I seeing this page?
    The page you're seeing is an "Under Construction" page, a standard placeholder web page that SBC Yahoo! created for the owner of the web address at which it appears. The temporary home page will remain at this web address (domain) until the owner chooses to replace it with a web page or site of his own.

    Missing Smiley Faces??
    I am just starting to do some major re-organization, and customization to my site.

    I love the Google Maps feature, however I have noticed an issue. On occasion, I have noticed on the main map of the home page, as well as on Zoomed-in Maps, it will not display all the geographic markers (Green Smiley Face). Is this a Google Maps bug, a database problem, or my own impatience: -) Another strange behavior observed is from the Main Map, clicking on a marker, and then not displaying the zoomed-in markers.

    Actually it can be renamed like you renamed the other titles. Just add:
    <*script type="text/javascript">
    var objElement = document.getElementById("mapTitle")
    if (objElement != null)
      objElement.innerHTML = "High Scholl locations";
    </script*>

    Do remove the * symbols from the above. And you may want to correct the Scholl typo :)

    I have the opposite problem. The google map thing on my home page shows the entire world, even though I only have geotagged photos from North America.

    I too get the "registered to a different site" message, having first registered a google maps key to www.muddyknees.com, and now after trying to register muddyknees.smugmug.com I get the message: "google maps key is resigetered to a different site... you can generate a new key at..."

    I see in another message you said you resolved this problem. How did you do that?

    Looks like you've found a bug. The vast majority of our maps auto-zoom to just barely encompass whatever you've tagged. We must not be doing that right for you - I'll see if I can find out why.

    Thanks, onethumb. I know the zooming works at the gallery level through the "map this" button. Could it be that I have a LOT of geotagged photos?

    BTW, good call on choosing Google Maps. The satellite imagery is much more detailed and more up-to-date than Yahoo's offering.

    I thought the Map This! for a gallery "auto zoomed" to barely encompass your pics... doesn't appear to be zooming in enough here... what can I do?
