Boston Ballet, Carmen

Thursday, 11 May, Boston Ballet presented the world premier of Jorma Elo's Carmen. I've watched the Jorma work with the dancers on this choreography for the last few months, but the very first full run through without a stop was the opening night performance. I think that means that nobody really knew exactly what to expect.

From a photographer's point of view, this ballet was just the opposite of Serenade. The light for Serenade was great and it was easy to get gorgeous shots. I have quite a few that I haven't processed yet. The lighting for Carmen was also great, but it was dark. There was a lot of use of colored follow spots. All of which made it hard to get good shots. As this is a story ballet, I really wanted to get all the shots to illustrate a plot synopsis. That didn't happen, so I guess it will have to be a challenge for the fall, when Boston Ballet will present Don Quixote.
If not now, when?

Oh Rutt, this is terrific. Your first shot is a show stopper. Man, this stuff just gets better every time you post!

I love that first shot. It's got such a wide range of texture and light.

Gosh, if only there were more light on her face in the third shot, it would be breathtaking.
