I'm about ready to go out to look at the Nikkor 50mm F1.8 at the only store that sells them around here. Just wondering if this is a good lens,`cos I didn't wanna have to buy the Nikkkor's 50mm F1.4 at $329 at this store.

The store here sells the F1.8 for $119. I can get the 1.4 online at PrestigeCamera for $239, but have to wait several days for it, and I need to go to another seminar this evening and tomorrow evenining, so not gonna order it anytime soon.

I know the 1.4 is much better than my Sigma that I have now. I've even seen a 50mm and an 85mm that are both F1.2, but they're not cheap.

I Hope there is good news about the Nikkor 50mm F1.8 before I buy it. If their not too good, then I may as well use this Sigma 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 for the seminars.

Thanks!

I love my 1.4 . I knew if I bought the 1.8 I wouldn't be happy until I had the 1.4, so I cut out the middle man.

Go here to read about different Nikon lenses if you haven't already. Bjorn's a great resource:

The short answer is that the 50mm f/1.8 is well regarded as an excellent, sharp lens. $119 is a teeny bit steep percentage wise, as you can get these closer to $100, but that may not matter in the face of getting it 'today.' Enjoy!

But I was thinking the Nikkor F1.8 had to take better pictures than any lens that's F3.5. And I'd like to buy one tonight for the seminar.

Yeah, I've seen them for $79 online. Perhaps it was a sale.

I'm back from the seminar. I didn't get a lens,`cos I chose to wait until I buy something online. I went ahead and used my Sigma 18-50 F3.5-F5.6, and I took a couple of pictures. I haven't even looked at them on the 17in monitor yet.

Just now looked online at PrestigeCamera. They were selling their Nikkor 50mm F1.4 for $239. Now it's $223. Then I found the same lens at CambridgeWorld for $188. Does anyone here occasionally buy anything from CW?

I was wondering,`cos $188 sounds awefully cheap, and I was afraid CW's a con site. If it's a good place, then I'll go ahead and order it, or something from them... and my Lightsphere, too, from Gary,`cos there are 18 more seminars from this month through June.

    Thanks!

Before you put you money down with CW, I might suggest you visit this site...

Normally, a store will have an active review list. I don't quite knowhow to read this one. The last review of the store was in Sep `05.

    Thanks, Scott!

That tiny rating that CW has sounds like I'd never see my lens, or my money again.11doh.gif

Well, guess I'll have to spend quite a bit more to get it from someone else that can be trusted,
`cos even PrestigeCamera has a low rating, but higher than CW.
