DAM and Back-ups

I'm wondering, of the people who have read "The DAM Book", how many take his advice to heed about structuring directories and archiving to DVD? In particular, the advice to create "buckets" on your big hard drives of roughly 4.0 to 4.3G in size. Then you back-up these buckets. Notice each bucket might have multiple jobs (because they are small), or one big job might be in two or more buckets. The idea is you use your cataloging software (such as iView Media) to actually find files, and your buckets will conveniently fill up a blank DVD for archiving.

I'm actually thinking of going through my 2005 archive and re-arranging to do exactly this, as well as my 2006 photos and beyond.
